What is it?
The Leap Motion controller is a small USB powered hand tracker. Using two infra-red cameras, and analysing the images they produce, the leap is able to track hand positions, gestures, and movements to millimeter accuracy, and with very low latency.
Potential for AV/AR
It didn't take long for people to realise that the leap could be used in conjunction with Head Mounted Displays such as the Oculus Rift. Perhaps most obviously, it can be used so that a user can press buttons and pull levers with their real hands, instead of a controller. However, a recent software update has allowed developers to access the video feed from the Leap directly, opening the door for Augmented Reality applications.
